Research Mining & Assessment

Systematically cataloging, assessing, and evaluating laboratory outputs across the College of Science to build the university intellectual property portfolio.

General Guidelines & Purpose

Technology assessment through Research Mining aims to streamline the systematic collection of research outputs across all institutes and develop strategic roadmaps to support the College's technology transfer and patenting initiatives.

Mandatory Submission Requirements

  • Terminal Report: Complete final report of the funded or unfunded research project.
  • CS Innovation Form for Faculty and Researchers: Official form summarizing the technology's application, scientific novelty, and current stage of development.
  • Invention Disclosure Form (IDF): Formal UP TTBDO document establishing inventorship, technical description, and prior art background.

4-Stage Technology Assessment Flow

  • Stage I: Initial Submission and Assessment
The researcher submits the Terminal Report and accomplished CS Innovation Form. The committee conducts a preliminary screening to evaluate scientific maturity and alignment.
  • Stage II: Evaluation and IP Categorization
The project is classified according to Technology Readiness Level (TRL) and intellectual property potential (Patent, Utility Model, Copyright, or Trade Secret).
  • Stage III: Commercialization Strategy Development
Formulation of a customized translation roadmap, including funding support for prototype optimization, field trials, and market scoping.
  • Stage IV: Tech Transfer & Adoption Linking
Formal submission of the IDF to UP Diliman TTBDO and introduction of the technology to potential industry adoptors through Customer Discovery sessions.
