General Guidelines for the Innovation Award (with Grant)

The CS Innovation Award aims to recognize outstanding innovative research within the College of Science and actively promote its technology transfer and societal adoption.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to all currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students of the UP Diliman College of Science.
  • The thesis or dissertation must be formally classified as "I" (Innovation) during defense or submission.
  • Research outputs co-authored with faculty advisers and institute researchers are fully eligible for nomination.

Application & Nomination Requirements

  • Complete Thesis/Dissertation Manuscript and Extended Abstract.
  • Duly accomplished CS Innovation Form for Theses and Dissertations.
  • Endorsement from the Thesis Adviser and Institute Director.
  • Initial Invention Disclosure Form (IDF) if patentable intellectual property is present.

Assessment, Evaluation & Award Mechanics

Nominations are reviewed by the CS Innovation Committee in coordination with institute representatives according to three primary dimensions:

1. Scientific Rigor & Novelty

Depth of basic or applied science, methodological soundness, and original contributions to the scientific discipline.

2. Societal Impact & Need

Potential to solve pressing Philippine and global challenges in healthcare, climate resilience, food security, or industry.

3. Technology Readiness

Clarity of prototype validation, feasibility of commercialization or community adoption, and intellectual property viability.
